Lucas, our Director of Engineering, has really leaned in and has immersed himself in the world of recruiting. Lucas is wearing multiple hats, designing and building recruiting products, conducting techboost interviews and calibrations and helping design process (tech challenges). In a world where Engineers are often typecasted, Lucas strives to understand and adapt. We will make a Recruiter out of him yet!
What made you want to join RocketPower?
The opportunity of working with an interesting problem. The recruiting industry generates a lot of data that needs to be properly organized and also most Softwares out there aren't that good. So the amount of room we have to revolutionize this industry is exciting!
Briefly describe your role here at RocketPower…
I think a good answer would be "all things engineering". This means that even though most of my time is dedicated to backend development, I also assist in organizing our engineering tasks, help with product decisions and roadmap, take care of our cloud infrastructure, and occasionally help with some frontend code. I also love helping out on the technical part of the hiring process.
What core value do you resonate with most? (SOFE - Seek to Understand, Ownership Mentality, First Things First, Everybody Wins)
Ownership Mentality for sure. I have joined computer science first because of curiosity (it was magical to me how a computer worked), and secondly, I was tired of using so many bad software systems (which were slow, full of bugs, and hard to use). So, I aim to put myself in the shoes of customers and create great solutions to their problems. To do this I need to care deeply about how these solutions are going to be used. Not only in the present but also for a long period of time, I can't just think about it in the short term or write a code that is not maintainable.
What is your favorite thing about working at RocketPower?
The people. Coworkers here are friendly and incredibly easy to work with (I am always impressed by how nice everyone is at each meeting I attend). Also, as a distributed team we trust each other a lot, and this level of trust has made me grow a lot as a professional. The management team also cares a lot about the people, we can see great initiatives growing with the company. The unlimited-PTO and the 1:1 policies are great examples of that.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of work/your interests or hobbies/anything you’d like to highlight about yourself?
I believe I fall into the "nerd" category, so I spend a considerable amount of time playing games and watching movies/TV Shows. But I live on an awesome island, so I also love doing hikes and going to the beach with my dogs and my fiancée.
What is a fun fact about yourself that most people don’t know?
My fiancée is a Technical Recruiter, so a lot of our conversations are about the hiring process (and the memes we send each other as well).
